Proteinske arginin N-metiltransferaze, kao što je PRMT6, kataliziraju sekvencni prijenos metil-grupe od S-adenozil-L-metionina na dušike argininskih ostataka bočnog lanca unutar proteina, kako bi se formirao metilirani derivat arginina i S-adenozil-L-homocistein (prema OMIM][6]
