Funkcija
urediKalpaini, neutralne proteaze aktivirane kalcijem, su nelizozomalne, unutarćelijskee cisteinskr proteaze. Kalpaini sisara uključuju sveprisutne proteine specifične za želudac i mišiće. Sveprisutni enzimi se sastoje od heterodimera s različitim velikim, katalitskim podjedinicama povezanim sa zajedničkom malom, regulatornom podjedinicom. Ovaj gen kodira veliku podjedinicu sveprisutnog enzima, kalpain-1.[7]
