Funkcija
urediNatrij-vodikovi antiporteri, kao što je NHEDC2, pretvaraju protonsku pokretačku silu koju uspostavlja respiratorni lanac ili mitohondrijska F1F0 ATPaza u gradijente natrija koji pokreću druge procese. Oni zahtijevaju energiju, pretvaraju signale okoline u ćelijske odgovore ili funkciju u efluksu lijeka.[7]
