Membranski protein POM pora jedrove ovojnice 121 je protein koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom POM121.[5][6][7] Opisane su alternativno prerađene varijante transkripta koje kodiraju različite izoforme proteina, ali je utvrđena priroda cijele dužine samo jedne.[8]

Funkcija

Jedarna ovojnica stvara različite odjeljke u jedrovim i citoplazmatskim odjeljcim eukariotskih ćelija. Sastoje se od dvije koncentrične perforirane membrane jedrovih pora, velikih proteinskih kompleksa koji tvore vodene kanale za regulaciju protoka makromolekula između jedra i citoplazme. Ovi kompleksi sastoje se od najmanje po 100 različitih polipeptidnih podjedinica, od kojih mnoge pripadaju porodici nukleoporina. Ovaj gen kodira člana nukleoporina koji sadrži ponavljanje FG. Protein kodiran ovim genom je integralni membranski protein koji se nalazi u kompleksu prstenova sa središnjim krakovima i sudjeluje u sidrenju kompleksa jedarnih pora za jedrovuu ovojnicu.[8]

Antitijela protiv ovog proteina mogu se koristiti za identifikaciju jedrove ovojnice u imunofluorescencijskim eksperimentima.[10]
