Funkcija
urediProtein kodiran ovim genom je enzim tipa 2, iz porodice ekto-nukleozid trifosfat difosfohidrolaza (E-NTPDaza). E-NTPDaze su porodica ekto-nukleozidaza koje hidroliziraju 5'-trifosfate. Ova ekto-ATPaza je integralni membranski protein. Alternativna prerada ovog gena dovodi do više varijanti transkripta.[6]
Naučnici sa Univerziteta u Warwicku pokazali su da E-NTPDaza 2 stimulira rast ljudskog oka: tretiranjem enzima na punoglavcima, otkriveno je da dobijaju dodatne oči na svom tijelu.
