Funkcija
urediOvaj genski proizvod je član vaninske porodice proteina koji međusobno dijele veliku sličnost sekvenci, kao i sa biotinidazom. Porodica uključuje izlučene i membranom povezane proteine, od kojih je nekoliko prijavljeno da učestvuju u prometu hematopoetskih ćelija. Nijedna biotinidazna aktivnost nije dokazana ni za jedan od vaninski proteina; međutim, oni posjeduju panteteinaznu aktivnost, koja može imati ulogu u odgovoru na oksidativni stres. Ovaj protein, kao i njegov mišji homolog, vjerovatno je GPI usidrena molekula ćelijske površine. Mišji protein eksprimiraju perivaskularne timusne stromske ćelije i reguliraju migraciju progenitornih T-ćelija u timus. Ovaj gen je u neposrednoj blizini i u istoj transkripcijskoj orijentaciji kao i dva druga gena vanina na hromosomu 6q, regija 23-q24.[6]
