Funkcija
urediProtein kodiran ovim genom pripada porodici trombospondina. Članovi porodice trombospondina su adhezivni glikoproteini koji posreduju u interakcijama ćelija-ćelija i ćelija-matriks. Utvrđeno je da je TSP3 uključen u regulaciju sazrijevanja skeleta.[8] Ovaj protein formira pentamernu molekulu povezanu jednom disulfidnom vezom. Ovaj gen dijeli zajednički promotor s metaksinom 1.[6] Identificiran je kao gen na hromosomu 1, odgovoran za posredovanje vze s genetskičm osjetljivošću na infekcije SARS-CoV-2.[9]
