Funkcija
urediElongin A je podjedinica kompleksa transkripcijskog faktora B (SIII). SIII kompleks se sastoji od elongina A/A2, B i C.
Aktivira elongaciju pomoću RNK-polimeraze II, suzbijanjem prolaznog zastoja polimeraze na mnogim mjestima unutar transkripcijskih jedinica. Elongin A funkcioniše kao transkripcijski aktivna komponenta SIII kompleksa, dok su elongini B i C regulatorne podjedinice. Elongin A2 je specifično eksprimiran u sjemenicima i sposoban je da formira stabilan kompleks sa elonginima B i C. Proteinski supresor von Hippel-Lindauovog tumora vezuje se za elongine B i C i na taj način inhibira elongaciju transkripcije.[7]
