Protein kodiran ovim genom povezan je s jedarnim šaperonskim fosfoproteinima , nukleoplazminom i nukleofosminom. Vrlo je homologan produktu mišjeg gena Npm3. Na temelju strukturne sličnosti ljudskog genskog proizvoda NPM3 s nukleoplazminom i nukleofosminom, NPM3 može predstavljati novog člana ove genske porodice i može dijeliti osnovne funkcije s molekulskim šaperonima.[ 6]
