Funkcija
urediProtein kodiran ovim genom integralni je membranski protein koji se lokalizira u endoplazmatski retikulum i predviđa se da tvori transmembranske kanale. Ovaj gen kodira transmembranski protein sličan kanalu sa 8 predviđenih transmembranskih domena i tri motivi+a leucinskog zatvarača.[6]
Klinički značaj
urediMutacije u genu TMC8 povezane su sa epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), autosomno recesivnom dermatozom koju karakterizira abnormalna osetljivost na ljudske papilomaviruse (HPV) i velika stopa napredovanja pločastog karcinoma na koži izloženoj suncu.[6]
