SLC24A6 pripada porodici Kalij-ovisni izmjenjivač natrij-kalcij koji održavaju ćelijsku homeostazu kalcija, putem elektrogenog protivtransporta četiri iona natrija za jedan ion kalcija i jedan kalija.[7]
