Funkcija

Histoni su osnovni jedarni proteini koji su odgovorni za nukleosomsku strukturu hromosomskih vlakana u eukariotima. Dvije molekule svakog od četiri jezgra histona (H2A, H2B, H3 i H4) formiraju oktamer , oko kojeg je otprilike 146 bp DNK omotano u ponavljajuće jedinice, zvane nukleosomi. Linkerski histon, H1, stupa u interakciju sa linkerom DNK između nukleosoma i funkcionira u zbijanju hromatina u strukture višeg reda. Ovaj gen je bez introna i kodira člana porodice histona H4. Transkripti ovog gena nemaju repove polyA, ali umjesto toga sadrže palindromski terminski element. Ovaj gen se nalazi u malom klasteru histonskih gena na hromosomskom segmentu 6p22-p21.3.[8]
