Funkcija
urediHistoni su osnovni jedarni proteini koji su odgovorni za nukleosomsku strukturu hromosomskog vlakna kod eukariota. Dvije molekule svakog od četiri jezgarna histona (H2A, H2B, H3 i H4) formiraju oktamer, oko kojeg je omotano oko 146 bp DNK u ponavljajuće jedinice, zvane nukleosomi. Linkerski histon, H1, stupa u interakciju s DNK-linkera između nukleosoma i funkcionira u zbijanju hromatina u strukture višeg reda. Ovaj gen je bez introna i kodira člana porodice histona H4. Transkripti ovog gena nemaju poliA repove, ali umjesto toga sadrže palindromski terminacijski element. Ovaj gen nalazi se u velikom klasteru histonskih gena na hromosomu 6.[8]
