U4C Special Election - Call for Candidates

A special election has been called to fill additional vacancies on the U4C. The call for candidates phase is open from now through July 19, 2024.

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members are invited to submit their applications in the special election for the U4C. For more information and the responsibilities of the U4C, please review the U4C Charter.

In this special election, according to chapter 2 of the U4C charter, there are 9 seats available on the U4C: four community-at-large seats and five regional seats to ensure the U4C represents the diversity of the movement. No more than two members of the U4C can be elected from the same home wiki. Therefore, candidates must not have English Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, or Italian Wikipedia as their home wiki.

After carefully tallying both individual and affiliate votes, the Charter Electoral Commission is pleased to announce the final results of the Wikimedia Movement Charter voting.  

As communicated by the Charter Electoral Commission, we reached the quorum for both Affiliate and individual votes by the time the vote closed on July 9, 23:59 UTC. We thank all 2,451 individuals and 129 Affiliate representatives who voted in the ratification process. Your votes and comments are invaluable for the future steps in Movement Strategy.

The final results of the Wikimedia Movement Charter ratification voting held between 25 June and 9 July 2024 are as follows:

Individual vote:

Out of 2,451 individuals who voted as of July 9 23:59 (UTC), 2,446 have been accepted as valid votes. Among these, 1,710 voted “yes”; 623 voted “no”; and 113 selected “–” (neutral). Because the neutral votes don’t count towards the total number of votes cast, 73.30% voted to approve the Charter (1710/2333), while 26.70% voted to reject the Charter (623/2333).

Affiliates vote:

Out of 129 Affiliates designated voters who voted as of July 9 23:59 (UTC), 129 votes are confirmed as valid votes. Among these, 93 voted “yes”; 18 voted “no”; and 18 selected “–” (neutral). Because the neutral votes don’t count towards the total number of votes cast, 83.78% voted to approve the Charter (93/111), while 16.22% voted to reject the Charter (18/111).

Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation:

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees voted not to ratify the proposed Charter during their special Board meeting on July 8, 2024. The Chair of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, Nataliia Tymkiv, shared the result of the vote, the resolution, meeting minutes and proposed next steps.  

With this, the Wikimedia Movement Charter in its current revision is not ratified.

Coming soon: A new sub-referencing feature – try it!

Hello. For many years, community members have requested an easy way to re-use references with different details. Now, a MediaWiki solution is coming: The new sub-referencing feature will work for wikitext and Visual Editor and will enhance the existing reference system. You can continue to use different ways of referencing, but you will probably encounter sub-references in articles written by other users. More information on the project page.

Ažuriranje čelnika nižih administrativnih jedinica

Ovdje nismo na visini zadatka (ja prvi). Posljednjih mjeseci jedan korisnik (Martin Macha) ažurira predsjednike država i premijere, ali ostaju nam niže administrativne jedinice po državama, a nije da ih nema, pa kako bi bilo najpraktičnije sve "obletjeti"? Nisam odavno aktivan, ali ukoliko stvari još uvijek stoje koliko ih se sjećam, mislim da bi za bs.wiki bilo odlično da se ovo poveže sa wikipodacima kroz šablone. Time bi se oslobodili od mnogo ažuriranja u svim člancima gdje se koristi dotični šablon. Mislim da ovdje trebamo gledati malo i šire, ogroman je potencijal za male projekte kakav je naš, možemo uvezati i druge podatke koje nismo u mogućnosti ažurirati redovno npr. kod države površinu, broj stanovnika, GDP, GDP per kapita, i mnoge druge statističke podatke koji se redovno ažuriraju na Wikipodacima. Koliko sam uspio vidjeti potrebno je onogućiti povezivanje (da li imaju neki moduli ili se to uradi u infokutiji nisam stručan ali srećom imamo korisnike koji su tehnički potkovaniji) pa je kasnije vrlo jednostavno povezati podatke. Proširivanje članaka o jedinicama drugog ranga

Praveći kategorije za ruske oblasti, primijetio sam da ih većina ima samo 2-3 rečenice. Ovo kažem samo za Rusiju, a znamo koliko je država u svijetu, tj. jedinica drugog ranga. Naravno da ne treba sad pisati neke velike članke (mi to realno ne možemo) nego malo ih proširiti, da bude 4-5 pasusa umjesto 2-3 rečenice. – KWiki (razgovor) 13:22, 26 januar 2025 (CET)

Trenutno stanje

Ažurirao sam sve relevantne module, tako da bi sada trebali biti u toku sa zadnjim dašavanjima uvezi wikipodataka. Primjer gdje se primjenjuje povlačenje podataka sa Wikipodataka se može vidjeti kod {{Infokutija_anatomija}}. Isto tako možemo druge infokutije organizirati.

Što se tiče infokutije {{Geokutija}} situacija je komplikovanija. Ovo je generalizovana infokutija gdje, koliko vidim, nije moguće uzeti isti prustup kao kod infokutije anatamoija. Tu je na primjer parametar `lider` definiran, ali pošto se Geokutija koristi u razne svrhe, nevjerujem da je isto svojstvo validno sa Wikipodataka (ali moram da priznam da to nisam provjerio). Ali i bez obzira na to, koliko se sjećam davno smo već govorili o ovome da se Geokutija svakako zamjeni za varijante koje se služe na en.wiki, tako da bi i sada predložio da se to uradi umjesto da nju dalju komplikujemo sa uvezivanjem sa wikipodacima.

Kako konkretno naprijed? Kao prvo, mislim da bi jedan projekat mnogo pomogao za sveobuhvatnu organizaciju. Na dalje, mislim da bi trebalo slijediti stari princip da se što više oslonimo na en.wiki. Sugestija za početak je da se krene od američkih saveznih država, i da se umjesto {{Geokutija}} koristi en.wiki varijanta en:Template:Infobox_U.S._state (na primjer u članku Aljaska). Prije nekoliko godina sam se ja već bavio problematikom Geokutije i dosta toga sam zamijenio. Ostalo je još malo više od 1000 članaka gdje treba zamjeniti Geokutiju, to su većinom naselja, gradovi, distrikti, itd. i to sve treba zamjeniti sa Infokutijom naselje kao na en.wiki (plus nekoliko rijeka i jezera mislim da je ostalo, a za to već imaju infokutija Rijeka i Vodena površina). Također sam pravio wrappere koji su bazirani na Infokutiji naselje po uzoru na en.wiki (en:Category:Templates calling Infobox settlement) gdje su već neki od parametara popunjeni za lakše i jednostavnije dodavanje infokutija u članke. Nakon toga ostaje da se u Infokutiji naselje ubace ti Wikidata parametri, ali kao što Edin reče za Geokutiju, mislim i da u ovom slučaju to neće biti baš jednostavno zbog broja parametara u šablonu u načinu njihovog korištenja.--Semso98 (razgovor) 15:24, 10 februar 2025 (CET)

Preliminary results of the 2024 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees elections

Hello all,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election. Close to 6000 community members from more than 180 wiki projects have voted.

The following four candidates were the most voted:

1. Christel Steigenberger
2. Maciej Artur Nadzikiewicz
3. Victoria Doronina
4. Lorenzo Losa

While these candidates have been ranked through the vote, they still need to be appointed to the Board of Trustees. They need to pass a successful background check and meet the qualifications outlined in the Bylaws. New trustees will be appointed at the next Board meeting in December 2024.

'Wikidata item' link is moving, finally.

Hello everyone, I previously wrote on the 27th September to advise that the Wikidata item sitelink will change places in the sidebar menu, moving from the General section into the In Other Projects section. The scheduled rollout date of 04.10.2024 was delayed due to a necessary request for Mobile/MinervaNeue skin. I am happy to inform that the global rollout can now proceed and will occur later today, 22.10.2024 at 15:00 UTC-2. Please let us know if you notice any problems or bugs after this change. CampaignEvents extension and the upcoming CEE Hub Office Hour

Some of you have already been in contact with the Event Registration tool, that we are using for our monthly Office Hours. As this tool is part of the wider CampaignEvents extension, we would dedicate our upcoming monthly Office Hour to this topic and during the call will be present as well Benedict Nnaemeka Udeh, who will have a short demo about this extension and will answer your questions.

The Office Hour will be held on 18th of November (Monday) at 17:00 CET. All the details about local time and how to register yourself are available on our Meta page.

In the meantime, you can check this Meta page about the extension, where you can find all the details about three key functionalities:

• Event Registration tool, allows campaign organizers to manage event registrations directly on the wiki. You can find instructions on how to use it here.
• Event list, global, automated list of events on the wikis. It can be accessed by going to SpecialːAllEvents.

This participant-driven meeting will be organized by the Wikimedia Foundation’s Language Product Localization team and the Language Diversity Hub. We will also have members from the Wayuunaiki community joining us to share their experiences with the Incubator and as a new community within our movement. This meeting will have a Spanish interpretation.

Zdravo. Detaljno istražujem Mediteranske igre i stvaram članke s informacijama koje pronađem. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_at_the_2001_Mediterranean_Games) Međutim, nisam uspio pronaći sljedeće podatke o Bosni i Hercegovini. Možete li pogledati online ili fizičku arhivu novina i zapisati ove informacije?

• Mediteranske igre 1993.: Odbojka (muškarci) - 25.06.1993 - Alžir-Bosna i Hercegovina (podaci o rezultatu i broju setova kao 15:8, 15:10...)-

Vrlo je vjerovatno da će dan-dva nakon ovih datuma biti informacija u novinama. Nadam se da će mi neko pomoći.

Feminism and Folklore 2025 starts soon

You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2025 writing competition from February 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025 on your local Wikipedia. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a generated list of suggested articles.

Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:

1. Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
2. Set up a campaign on CampWiz tool.
3. Create the local list and mention the timeline and local and international prizes.
4. Request local admins for site notice.
5. Link the local page and the CampWiz link on the meta project page.

This year, the Wiki Loves Folklore Tech Team has introduced two new tools to enhance support for the campaign. These tools include the Article List Generator by Topic and CampWiz. The Article List Generator by Topic enables users to identify articles on the English Wikipedia that are not present in their native language Wikipedia. Users can customize their selection criteria, and the tool will present a table showcasing the missing articles along with suggested titles. Additionally, users have the option to download the list in both CSV and wikitable formats. Notably, the CampWiz tool will be employed for the project for the first time, empowering users to effectively host the project with a jury. Both tools are now available for use in the campaign. Kopirajt na poštanske markice BH pošte

Jel zna neko jesu slike poštanskih markica na sajtu bh pošta (primera radi ovde)pod nekom slobodnom licencom ili su kopirajt? Ako jesu, jel ima neko da je slao dozvolu za objavljivanje? Jeste, sve su zaštićene copyrightom. Ove koje su na bs.wiki su iz moje kolekcije, ali to ne mijenja stvar. Markice su skoro u svim poštama zaštićene copyrightom, a tek nakon isteka određenog vremena, mogu se koristiti u medijima i sl. Svaka država određuje to vrijeme važenja. @AnToni Šta misliš da li bi nam dali dozvolu za objavljivanje? Ako nije prevelika usluga da te pitam da ih zamoliš, u ime bs.wiki, jer zadnji put kad sam ja i drugi sa sr.wiki slično to pokušavali da dobijemo dozvolu da objavljujemo slike Komisije za nacionalne spomenike BiH, iz trećeg pokušaja neki ćato tamo što radi je poslao zvaničan dopis da on ne sme to da radi jer je adresa sa koje se tražilo u Beogradu i nešto se istripovao da krši neke međudržavne sporazume, niđe veze. --Ivan VA (razgovor) 19:52, 2 februar 2025 (CET)

Samo se predstavi da si u ime bs.wiki. Ovoj devojci što radi u Vikimediji Srbije su odbili jer je u ime organizacije iz Srbije tražila. A prethodno sam ja lično tražio i jedna devojka što radi u VZRS u Banjaluci. Meni su dozvolili, al nisu popunili lepo štablon pa nije bilo validno, a njoj su dozvolili, al su zaboravili da pošalju zvanično i onda su na kraju odbili. Tkd, moj savet, pošalji u ime Wikipedije na bosanskom jeziku. Veća je šansa da prođe, a kontam da su ažurniji od ovih u državnim organima bar jer su preduzeće. Prijedlog za ujednačavanje

U većini članaka o osobama stoji IK s vremenom i mjestom rođenja (i smrti) tako da je to jednostavno višak navoditi i u prvoj rečenici jer je već napisano nekoliko centimetara udesno (kutije za to i služe – da se glavni dio malo rastereti). To je nasljeđe štampanih enciklopedija, gdje je uglavnom bio samo tekst. S druge strane, oni koji su navikli na taj stil, navikli su na čitanje teksta. A treba razmisiliti kako će to izgledati u mobilnom prikazu na telefonima i sl.--AnToni_(R) 21:19, 15 februar 2025 (CET)

Vidio sam nekad ranije da se o ovom raspravljalo, čini mi se, na serveru Wikipedije na engleskom jeziku ili WMF-a. Ako se dobro sjećam tadašnjih argumenata par ljudi koji su prvobitno radili na infokutijama, zamišljene su da budu lako čitljivi sažeci bitnih informacija o osobi, pojmu, filmu, seriji itd. To je u principu poenta i uvodnog dijela članka – da se napiše sažetak bitnih informacija koje se mogu naći u ostatku članka. E, sad, treba jednostavno ustanoviti šta je zapravo bitno da stoji u prvoj rečenici. Mislim da je mjesto rođenja i smrti generalno nebitno, ali datum možda ipak jeste i možda bi manje upadljiva bila inverzija koja se, gotovo u svim slučajevima, mora raditi nakon zagrade u odnosu na to kad zagrade nema. – Srđan (razgovor) 12:13, 16 februar 2025 (CET)

Alternativni prijedlog o budućnosti srodnih projekata na bosanskom jeziku

Poštovane kolegice i kolege, Wikipedijini srodni projekti na bosanskom jeziku (Wikirječnik, Wikicitati, Wikiknjige, Wikizvor i Wikivijesti) većinom su neaktivni i neodržavani. Potonja četiri projekta uopšte nemaju ni administratore koji bi održavali projekt. Ne tako davno je kolega AnToni pisao o tome. Međutim, umjesto da te projekte gasimo, možda ima smisla da im proširimo opseg. Šta mislite da ovim projektima proširimo domen na cjelokupno srpskohrvatsko/štokavsko (sh) područje? To bi značilo da će Wikirječnik, Wikicitati, Wikiknjige, Wikizvor i Wikivijesti postati zajednička briga bosanskih i srpskohrvatskih vikipedista, ali i svih kolega s našega govornog područja. Tako bismo možda mogli uspjeti da održimo neku sržnu uredničku bazu. Što se tiče Wikirječnika, možemo razmotriti zajednički projekt, gdje bi sve bosanske odrednice bile prenesene, a svi bosanski administratori postali administratori zajedničkog projekta. Meni ovo zvuči razumno, trenutna situacija nema smisla i mislim da je bolje da se ima kakvi takvi srodni projekti na kojem će biti uključeno i ono što je specifično bosanskom jeziku. @Panasko: Hvala na komentaru! Da, ne vidim neke veće prepreke. Jedino se, doduše, treba usaglasiti oko naziva projekata Wikisource i Wikinews. Na bosanskom su oni prevedeni kao "Wikizvor" i "Wikivijesti", dok su na srpskohrvatskom prevedeni kao "Wikiteka" i "Wikinovosti". Trebalo bi napraviti neki dogovor tu. S tim u vezi, srpskohrvatski "W(j)ečnik" nedavno je preimenovan u "Wikirječnik", tako da je ta nedosljednost riješena. Pozdrav svima, nije sporno da su (manji) srodni wikiprojekti uglavnom zapostavljeni. U teoriji, ništa ne sprečava bilo kog wikikorisnika sa podrazumijevanim stupnjem znanja jezika (i pisama) iste da uređuje. Nego, da li u praksi postoje određene komplikacije (npr. tehničke, karakteristične za neku wikizajednicu, nekakva ograničenja/nekakve zabrane) za ostvarivanje takvog uređivanja? Također, umjesto zatvaranja/brisanja/sakrivanja tih spomenutih wikiprojekata, možda je pametno da tu svugdje budu izabrani/postavljeni isti, zajednički administratori, ali i nosioci drugih korisničkih ovlasti (što zapravo predstavlja procedure generalno jednostavnije nego gašenje već postojećih, otvorenih projekata) – međutim, treba napomenuti da stjuardi lahko ne daju administratorska i slična prava, i to na projektima bez lokalnih birokrata. نوفاك اتشمان (razgovor) 09:58, 5 mart 2025 (CET)

@نوفاك اتشمان: U teoriji, da. Međutim, u praksi, stanje je takvo da jednostavno nedostaje urednički fond. Hvala ti na ovoj napomeni; mislim da bi stjuardi uvažili prijenos administratura (apropo Wikirječnika). Međutim, ako tu bude dvojbe, uvijek možemo formalizirati proces. Kolege sa sh.wikija podržale bi kandidature, s obzirom na to da sh.wikt do 1. aprila vjerovatno neće imati više nijednog aktivnog administratora na projektu (lista – Bogorm gubi ovlaštenja, a Vipzu ističe privremena administratura). Admin sam na BS Wikirječniku, ali rijetko idem tamo. Imam nešto malo doprinosa, uglavnom da održim status admina jer korisnik koji tamo najviše (i uglavnom sam) radi uopće nije iz našeg govornog područja (mislim da je Turčin). Za Vijesti je valjda jasno da se komotno mogu ugasiti (za Knjige nemam pojma šta uopće da kažem), ali ne bih volio da se to dogodi Citatima i Izvoru. Znam da se (i) Izvor dijeli po jezicima, ali postoji li mogućnost da se, s obzirom na regionalnu srodnost i isprepletenost, napravi krovni projekt, a da se unutar njega naprave podstranice za izvore na svakom regionalnom jeziku (radi lakše pretrage; kome zatreba, npr., izvor koji pripada hrvatskom jeziku, klikne u zaglavlju na "HR" itd.), a onda da se na njih prebaci dosadašnji sadržaj sa svih? @AnToni:, @Palapa:, @AdnanSa:, @Srđan:, @Semso98:, javite se kad mognete. – KWiki (razgovor) 12:42, 5 mart 2025 (CET)

@KWiki: To je okej i mogućno. Međutim, sh. Citat i Izvor ne postoje, tako da će svakako sve bosanske odrednice biti prenesene/uvezene direktno. An improved dashboard for the Content Translation tool

Hello Wikipedians,

The Language and Product Localization team has improved the Content Translation dashboard to create a consistent experience for all contributors using mobile and desktop devices. The improved translation dashboard allows all logged-in users of the tool to enjoy a consistent experience regardless of their type of device.

With a harmonized experience, logged-in desktop users now have access to the capabilities shown in the image below.

Notice that in this screenshot, the new dashboard allows: Users to adjust suggestions with the "For you" and "...More" buttons to select general topics or community-created collections (like the example of Climate topic).  Also, users can use translation to create new articles (as before) and expand existing articles section by section. You can see how suggestions are provided in the new dashboard  in two groups ("Create new pages" and "Expand with new sections")-one for each activity.

In the current dashboard, you will notice that you can't adjust suggestions to select topics or community-created collections. Also, you can't expand on existing articles by translating new sections.

We will implement this improvement on your wiki on Monday, March 17th, 2025 and remove the current dashboard by May 2025. Please reach out with any questions concerning the dashboard in this thread.
