Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray (Kolkata, 2. maj 1921 – Kolkata, 23. april 1992) bio je indijski filmski režiser, scenarista, pisac, esejist, tekstopisac, izdavač, ilustrator, kaligraf i kompozitor. Smatra se jednim od najboljih režisera svih vremena,[7][8] a neka od njegovih najpoznatijih djela su Trilogija Apu (1955–1959), Muzička soba (1958), Veliki grad (1963) i Charulata (1964), te trilogija Goopy–Bagha.

Režirao je 37 filmova uključujući dokumentarne i kratke filmove. Pisao je kratke priče, naučno-fantastične knjige, knjige za djecu itd. Osmislio je dva vrlo popularna dječja lika Feludu i profesora Shonkua. Počeo je snimati filmove nakon susreta s francuskim režiserom Jeanom Renoirom i pod utjecajem italijanskog filma "Kradljivci bicikala". Njegov prvi film Pather Panchali iz 1955. osvojio je 11 međunarodnih nagrada. Veliku pažnju poklanjao je scenarijima. Svi njegovi filmovi osim dva, snimljeni su na bengalskom jeziku.
Dobio je mnogo nagrada, uključujući 32 indijske nacionalne filmske nagrade, nagrade sa filmskih festivala u Cannesu, Berlinu i Veneciji i počasni Oskar za životno djelo 1991.
