Nagrada "Alan Paton"
Književna nagrada Sunday Timess CNA, ranije poznata kao Nagrada Alan Paton (Alan Paton Award), osnovana 1989, jest literarna nagrada koja se dodjeljuje svake godine u Južnoafričkoj Republici. Ime je dobila po književniku Alanu Patonu, autoru knjige Cry, The Beloved Country, a sponzor je johanesburški sedmičnjak Sunday Times. Sastoje se od Književne nagrade Sunday Times CNA za nefikciju i Književne nagrade Sunday Times CNA za fikciju. Oba pobjednika dobijaju R100.000.[1] Ivan Vladislavić je jedina osoba koja je dobila obje nagrade.

Historija
urediPrvobitno ustanovljena 1989, Nnagrada "Alan Paton" se dodeljuje svake godine za zaslužna djela publicističke literature. Imao je za cilj da nagradi knjige koje predstavljaju "rasvjetljavanje istinitosti, posebno one njene forme koje su nove, delikatne, nemodne i lete u lice moći", te demonstriraju "saosećanje, eleganciju pisanja, intelektualni i moralni integritet."[2] Nagrada je dobila ime po Alanu Patonu, poznatom južnoafričkom piscu Cry, The Beloved Country (1948).
Godine 2001. ustanovljena je prateća nagrada za fikciju. Kriteriji nalažu da bi pobjednički roman trebao biti roman "rijetke mašte i stila... priča toliko uvjerljiva da postane trajni orijentir savremene fikcije."[2] Nagrada je restrukturirana 2015. kada su dodijeljene nagrade za nefikciju i fikciju. okupljene su kao književne nagrade Sunday Timesa; novac za svaku nagradu je povećan, sa R75 000 na R100 000,[3] a nagrada za fikciju je preimenovana u Barry Ronge Fiction Prize u čast Barryja Rongea, poznatog južnoafričkog novinara koji je bio jedan od osnivača nagrada. U 2020. došlo je do jednogodišnje pauze zbog pandemije COVID-19.[5] Međutim, nagrade su se ponovo počele dodjeljivati 2021. sa novim sponzorom, CNA, južnoafričkim maloprodajnim lancem prodavnica kancelarijskog materijala, i sada su poznate kao Književne nagrade Sunday Times CNA.[6] Ovaj sponzorski aranžman uslijedio je nakon akvizicije CNA-a od matične kompanije Edcon u februaru 2020.[6] U 2021, knjige objavljene između 1. decembra 2018. i 1. decembra 2020. su ispunjavale uslove.[1]
