Jamie Tubers
Coordinator, Ilorin Wikimedia Hub
Founder / Lead, The AfroCine Project
About me
I have a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I have a very keen abiding interest in music, photography and filmmaking, as well as, a burning passion for Open education and Open access.
My work
I have been a Wikipedian since 2011, and I edit with the username "Jamie Tubers". I am a founder-member of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN), and since its inception, I have served as the Outreach Coordinator for the group. Owing to my adequate knowledge of Wikipedia policies, I have helped to organize several editing workshops, edit-a-thons and contests in Nigeria.
I have participated in and/or coordinated several Wikimedia projects, events and workshops at the national level, some of which include: Wiki Loves Africa, Wikipedia @15, Wiki Loves Nigeria, Wiki Loves Women, and Wiki Loves Monuments, amongst others. I also recently founded the Ilorin Wikimedia Hub (IWH), which runs as a branch of WUGN. Furthermore, I was a member of the Ombudsman Commission from February 2018 to February 2020.
My major goal is to make sure that the wide content gap and systemic bias that exist, especially in relation to the African continent is solved. To achieve this, I aim to raise the awareness of Wikipedia and its sister projects (and other Open projects) as much as is practically possible, in Nigeria, so we can get more people to contribute from my country.
