'''Iranski narodi''' su, u [[etnički|etničko]]-[[jezik|jezičkom]] smislu, potomci iranske grane starih [[Indoiranci|Indoiranaca]]. Ime ''Iran'' potiče od riječi ''Arya'', tj. [[Arijan]].

 

U iranske narode spadaju narodi koji govore [[iranski jezici|iranske jezike]], u smislu da ''iranski'' podrazumijeva veoma rastegljiv pojam koji se može primijeniti na različite narode i jezike, od kojih mnogi dijele zajedničko porijeklo od posebne grane starih Arijanaca (''Iranaca''). Mada je moderna država [[Iran]] usvojila ovo ime, zamjenjujući prethodni naziv [[Persija]], [[1935]], Iran nema isključivo pravo polaganja na izraz ''iranski'' ili ''iranski narod(i)''. Ovaj naziv nose ne samo [[Iranci]] i [[Tadžik|Tadžici]] u [[Iran]]u, [[Avganistan]]u i [[Tadžikistan]]u, nego i [[Paštun]]i, [[Kurdi]], [[Osetijci]], [[Baluč]] i ostale manje etničke skupine.
