Nakon njihove smrti, njihovi učenici su nastavili svoj misionarski rad među drugim Slavenima. Oba brata se u [[Pravoslavna crkva|pravoslavnoj crkvi]] poštuju kao sveci sa nazivom "jednaki apostolima". Ćirilo i Metodije dva su grčka misionara rođena u okolini [[Solun]]a, u današnja [[Grčka]] - Ćiril oko 827–828, a Metodije oko 815–820. Ċiril je navodno bio najmlađi od sedam braće.
