Ove medalje su registrovane kao zaštitni znaci Nobelove fondacije. Svaka medalja ima sliku Alfreda Nobela u lijevom profilu na spoljnoj, prednjoj strani medalje. Medalje Nobelove nagrade za fiziku, hemiju, fiziologiju ili medicinu i književnost imaju identične prednje strane, na kojoj je prikazana sliku Alfreda Nobela i godine njegovog rođenja odnosno smrti (1833-1896).
