Klinički značaj uredi

Defekti u genu SMPD1 uzrokuju Niemann-Pickovu bolest, povezanu sa SMPD1.[5]

Mutacija L302P u genu SMPD1 je faktor rizika za Parkinsonovu bolest.[7]
