Une tunique de drap d'or et un manteau de velours cramoisi composent son vêtement. Plus bas que Saül, est placé David jouant de la harpe; on ne voit que la partie supérieure de son corps. Tableau capital où l'énergie du pinceau égale la vigueur du coloris, où Rembrandt, on peut bien le dire, a une physiognomie pittoresque qui est toute à lui. T. h. 45 p. ---l. 67’)
